Can you believe it some what announced two year ago to introduce a tablet PC under $35 will be launched this month. Some body expecting that it will be launched on Oct 5th. Yes, It’s Oct 5th about in less than 48 hrs from now. Kapil Sibal has shown a prototype in 2009.
Earlier the launch has been delayed by 10 months due to non availability of parts of the gadget. HCL had surrendered in January and said to govt. that they are unable to manage such cheap parts. After that govt has taken some step to introduce and scheduled the launch to October 2011.
However most of the geeks and expert still do not belive in such cheap device under $35 (About Rs. 1500). This is all because of the secret configuration of the tab. How could they manage such device when a good entry level color phone is not available at such price tag.
The cheapest e-book reader of Amazon is available at price $97 (and they have claimed that they are loosing at least $10 on each Kindle) about 3x of the current price of India’s $35 tab.
Well I can only say to wait and watch the show will be aired soon. Here I would like to mention that the project is developed by IIT and named as “sakshat”. It is likely to believed that it will have 2GB of internal memory a 5-7 inches display, one or two USB and contain some open source office suite like open office. Govt have said that they are not providing any subside to the tab.
Let’s watch the funny show(?) if it is not a rumor but a reality.
