After the Google+ treatment with Google Reader I am quite unhappy with the new look. Especially if their is no way to revert the design. I was a regular user of Google Reader and my eyes were addicted to that. Even for my Gmail account I uses either old blue theme or some other theme but do not use the default theme. I have no problem with the layout of Google+ but really hate the same treatment with all google services.
I has posted a tweet said that looking for an alternative. Some time ago I have tried Feedly, another Feed reader which was most liked by many users. I also loved the design and used it for some time. But, their was a problem or probably a bug with that. When I tried to link my second account on chrome using multiple login to Google, it fails and always got linked with the default google account. Then I switched to Netvibes.
Features of Netvibes:
Netvibes is one of the best online feed reader solution. You may see it as iGoogle and Google Reader alternative. It has more than 262,000 widgets, 44,000 public pages and 6,700 themes. 😉 quite enough to see them all. But I have option to choose some good themes, which was my first priority. In Netvibes users may created multiple dashboard and use it for various purposes. We may also create a public page which will show some widgets.
Using Netvibes is not only easy but also has some good integration of social media. We got all these things for free. I never paid any for any online services except Flickr and always look for free alternative if I got a free application.
But it may be a major drawback that it do not have option to add stars to some feeds. I will miss this important feature in Netvibes. The in-depth features of Netvibes is limited to free users and no analytics is provided.
Netvibes is worth to try and you can important all feed urls from Google Reader by uploading the xml file exported from Google Reader.
Good bye Google Reader!
