Recently Intex has launched India’s first Firefox OS phone. This ultra cheap smartphone comes at just Rs. 1999. No android phone or even a good feature phone is comes around this budget. Intex and Mozilla brought this phone for those who can’t afford a 5K-6K smartphone. But, I think they have missed the nerve of Indian customers. Go through the post and check how, or just take a look on the tables and/or pros and cons of the phone. Before discussing anything else let’s take a quick look on the hardware configuration and the preinstalled software:
Intex CloudFX configuration
The Intex CloudFX is loaded with the following hardware configuration:
|Feature:||Intex Cloud FX|
|Screen||3.5 in (8.89mm)|
|Connectivity||GPRS/EDGE , Wifi, Bluetooth, FM Radio|
|Memory Card Support||MicroSD upto 4GB Officially (But 16GB worked for me)|
|In the Box||GSM Handset, Micro USB Cable, USB Charger (0.2 A), Battery (1250 mAh, Li-ion), Headphone (3.5mm)|
|Social Media||Facebook, Connect A2|
|Media Player||Yes (Video, Music Player, YouTube)|
What Could be installed: There are plenty of apps in the Firefox Marketplace. But if you install heavy app (even a few MB games like “Cut the Rope”) the app starts unresponsive. But unlike Cheap Android phone the installed apps will not slow down the phone when it is not active.
|Tools||Calculator, Weather Channel, File Manager, QR Scanner, Google Authenticator (unofficial app)|
|Games||Cut the Rope, Tic-tac-toe, Pacman,|
Actually, We can’t expect a lot from a Rs. 2000 mobile. It is very hard to think like a Rs. 2000 smartphone user. This is why no one can justify this phone without keeping their personal preference away. However, I tried to think like a feature phone user who is willing to get his first smartphone.
The phone is neither so attractive nor the worst, I have seen around. The Hardware quality overall is good. Other than some lags on marketplace apps you will not find any glitch on pre-installed software. The 3.5 inches screen is bright enough and produces good colours. As I is not specified anywhere officially about the screen I strongly suggest to use a screen guard to protect it from scratches. As expected the fixed focus camera is not that good. I have seen many reviewers considered it as average but in my view it is below average.
The sound quality of the speaker are good and microphone is also pretty good. You might be surprised to see an earphone in the box. However, the sound quality of the earphone is not clear and sometimes feels like you are listening songs without music. I will suggest you to buy another earphone (Even the Philips SHE1360/97 Headphone) or use any other earphone, if you already have any.
The battery dies in a day of normal use (without playing games). Since we can’t easily control the brightness level (like using some widget or auto brightness) it will be hard to enhance the battery life.
This is a Dual SIM phone and officially support upto 4GB microsd card. But my 16GB class10 Micro-SD card just worked fine.
The most disappointing thing with the phone is missing dedicated options and back buttons. There is
only one touch-menu button. They should have seriously thought about this.
Depending upon your need decide yourself. However, I will summarize the whole topic in the following pros and cons.
The cost. It is just Rs. 2000 phone. The nearest rival will be double of its price. Secondly, It has Firefox OS which assure your privacy protection. It has dual sim and need standard size sims. Apart from the hardware limitations the firefox marketplace is growing very rapidly and already have many popular software. The speaker of the phone is pretty good even at high volume. Surprisingly, The phone supports WiFi and WiFi tethering.
A back button is missing. Sometimes, Sometimes it feel really bad specially while I tested the phone. The missing back button always force you to start from the main menu again.
We can’t choose between SIMs for each outgoing call. We will need to go and change Setting from menu > Settings >> Sim Settings and then choose the prefered calling sim. This is pathetic for a dual sim.
The phone do not support 3G USIM (As mine BSNL USIM did not worked).
The box ships with very low quality headphone. The sound feels totally different, especailly for songs. It would be better to buy Philips She 97 or any other earphone with the phone.
I would advise to buy this phone if you are concern about privacy and do not have budget to go for entry level android phones. I will give the phone 3.5 out of 5.
The phone is exclusively available on Snapdeal only at just Rs. 1999. Since the headphone is not good enough to listen songs. You may buy Philips SHE1360/97 Headphone (earphone without microphone), which is much better than the shipped headphone. It is available at just Rs. 149 or below.
