Yesterday, someone mailed me about a popup message; “Netscape is not supported, please use IE or Opera” on SSC website. Because of this message he was not able to fill his form online even from IE (including Firefox and Google Chrome). I don’t know why govt. developers are so narrow minded and put such non-sense restrictions!
By the way, our concern is about fill the SSC form online easily and fix the alert. Due to this we will not be able to submit the form. But good part is we can easily fix this problem and we will be able to fill the SSC form from browser of our choice like FIrefox or Chrome. Lets start with fixing “Netscape is not supported, please use IE or Opera” message.
FIX “Netscape is not supported, please use IE or Opera” on SSC Online Site.
To fix this download and install User Agent Switcher to your Firefox web browser. (Open the above link from your Firefox browser and hit “Add to Firefox” button.)
Now restart the Firefox and hit Alt button (if the menu toolbar is not visible). Go to Tools –> Default User Agent –> Internet Explorer –> Internet Explorer 6.
It’s all done. Now there will be no alert saying “Netscape is not supported, please use IE or Opera”. Alternatively, Google Chrome user may use this chrome extension.
[Note: This problem appears with latest Internet Explorers and all other browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome]
Bonus tip: How to optimize your Photo and Signature (image):
SSC suggests asks images in following conditions:
- Images format should be in JPG 8bit GRAY and size must not exceed 12 KB. only
- Image Dimension of Photograph should be 100(Width) * 120(Height) Pixel only
- Image Dimension of Signature should be 140(Width) * 60(Height) pixels only
We may optimise Photo or images with Google Picasa and Microsoft Paint. Both comes free. If you have Microsoft Office installed then it will be quite easy and only this tool can do all this thing. But this is not free software. So we will start with Picasa and Paint here.
Edit your photo in Google Picasa:
Open your photo in Picasa editor follow the process:
- Change the ratio: First of all change the ratio of your image to 100:120. Go to Recorp –> Add custom aspect ratio (as shown here and here)
- Change it to Grayscale: Go to “Fun and useful image processing” –> “B&W” as shown here.
- Go to File –> Save as (choose different name so it will not replace original photo)
Open the newly saved image in “Paint” (This is free software your Windows PC already have).
- Go to “Resize” –> Select “Pixels” –> Horizontal – 100px –> OK
Your photo will be resized to 100x120px and as JPG 8bit Gray.
Use the same method to change your signature to 140x60px. For this you have to 140:60 in step 1 and similarly in step 4.
You should also save your image and signature files safely so you could use it again in future. Here is a list to top free file hosting sites.
