It could be the biggest mistake in my blogging life which makes my blog’s less visible on search engines. I have lost about 40% of the traffic in less than a week. Probably I got a warning message from the awesome SEO plugin by Yoast.
Let me tell what happen and how i lost my search engine optimisation in just checking a check box in WordPress dashboard? Guess which was the check box!
Well, it’s “Break comments into pages”. I hope you have guessed right. About a week ago I was optimising the blog since someone is trying to crack my admin password using some brute force method (I believe so). To tune up the security of the blog I started checking the settings and did this all.
As I remember, I got a error message which is starting something like this “Huge SEO problem …”. This message was flashed by SEO by Yoast plugin, No doubt this is one of the best SEO plugin.
By checking this, Google found a number of duplicate page, almost each blog-post has at least 2 similar page. for example:
are now indexed twice. Post having no comments are also indexed twice. And in result, I am getting 40% less traffic from google in just a few days. Now it will be really hard to recover it in a few days. and recently Google Panda is also causing pain for most webmasters. In such a critical time I just ruin the SEO for this blog. 🙁
The only thing I can say “Wish me good luck and never check this box”.
