BSNL is the biggest Indian ISP in Broadband and 3G segments. It is also in top 5 mobile operator.
BSNL is the first operator who have launched 3G services in India. At the same time BSNL has some unique features that other operators don’t have. BSNL allows its user to receive 3G video call if they have 3G enabled handsets. Additionally one can get access to 3G network for GPRS. But I have experienced that they have capped the speed under 2G plans.
I have seen hundreds of post claims for something like “BSNL 3G Hacks“, “BSNL 3G Tricks” and so on. Their is no trick at all. BSNL officially allow this, They allow to get access to their 3G network.
Due to this BSNL has swiped Unlimited 2G GPRS packs. I have used BSNL 3G and 2G for my GPRS need. I felt that if i was using 2G network the downloading speed was worst and hardly reached 40-45 kbps but when I switched to UMTS mode the average download speed was 120 kbps. However some lucky people have reached 350 kbps (on 3.5G network). It is good enough if you pay for 2G data plans and use high-speed internet. I have also used genuine 3G sim and plan, whose speed was quite good and average downloading speed was 1+ mbps.
What are the benefits: I think this is beneficial for both customers and BSNL. BSNL holds a good and active customer base who spends on something more than average user pays for internet and Customers gets high-speed internet (or probably wireless broadband) at cheapest price as low as Rs 270 (data uses 10GB) for one month. The average downloading speed at BSNL 2G is 120kbps which is almost best compared to other networks.Additionally: Check current Data plans for 2G and 3G.
