Since a long time we are using soical networking sites to share our views, option, photos and a lot more with our friends. Now, We are almost dependent on these sites and some of us are addicted. But, the question arises, Is these sites are enough secure to share our personal information. In my opinion NO.
However, These sites are the easiest way to share our thought, photos, videos and a lot of other online activity. But they have some really bad security holes or bugs. When Orkut was in main stream social networking we have experienced many bugs and account hacking. Now Facebook has replaced Orkut, not only for usages but also for security hole.
If we look behind, We will see a lot of such things happened. Most surprisingly the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, account has been hacked. Now, his private photos have been leaked. Whatever Facebook says, but the reality is uploading private content on these sites are not secure.
We should be more serious about our privacy and should use other method of communication for sharing sensitive data. Our government is looking for some rules regarding the content published on these sites but most surprisingly they are also not interested in the security of users, rather than this they want censorship for social networks. In USA, White house is looking for some acts to protect copyrights and illegal activity of or on site but it is again not about privacy. Here, both government is only serious about their freedom and do not want to see any content against them on websites. Friends’ what about our privacy and freedom to speak? Recently Matt Cutts has asked users to sign the petition against the proposed bill. It shows the seriousness of the topic!
So, If the thing your are sharing to you really matters for your privacy it will be better to not to share it via Facebook or other social networking sites. And if their is no choice left then share it with custom security and after some time delete it. Never left it, like it is in a “vault”.
