It may be surprising but Penta T-Pad IS701R is crap. Yes, you heard right. Initially most of us (Including me) believes Pantel’s Penta T-Pad IS701R is true Akash2 or Ublislate+ rival. But this is totally wrong and you even can’t imagine that the product do not meets the configuration (like RAM, Storage and Screen resolution) as shown on the official website or publicised anywhere else. Most people are talking about unboxing and I was also exited about the launch of Penta T-Pad IS701R and uploaded a video on Youtube about Penta T Pad unboxing.
But, You will really shocked if you will read further about the facts like ram, storage and screen resolution. Which are still not published anywhere else in my knowledge. Before coming to the point lets discuss first, why Pantel’s lowest model tab a.k.a. Penta T-Pad IS701R sucks.
Now the biggest disclosure: About the product and configuration why BSNL launched Penta IS701R is crap?
- RAM: Pantel claims that the gadget has 256 MB DDR2 ram. But the gadget has only 184 MB ram. Please see the image below. (On my gadget it shows only 34MB available memory even no application is running)
- Internal Storage: Penta T-Pad IS701R has maximum 1428MB internal storage (984 Internal Memory + 444 MB SD card memory). Is this equal to 2GB?
- Screen resolution: even on the official site you will find that the gadget have 800x600px resolution, which is again wrong. The resolution of the screen of the BSNL launched penta T-Pad IS701R is 800x480px.
- It seems that the processor speed is also slow and It could be just 933MHz instead of 1 GHz. Is this we are expecting from Pantel.
The above information has been confirmed by the either gadget stats or Android App named Android System Info which is free and can be downloaded from Android Market. I don’t know how BSNL has approved the device for sale without checking the configuration of Penta T-Pad IS701R.
I would definitely not bought the gadget if I knew that the gadget have only 184MB RAM, 800×480 resolution and ~1.5GB storage. Will you buy?
If you are still not impressed then what about the weight, Incompatibility with many apps, short recharge cable, Over heating, low battery backup, no Bluetooth, low sound and bad quality, need micro usb to standard usb connector cable to connect with Modem.
About the pre-order and processing:
The pre-order of the gadget has broken the records made by Aakash or Ubislate. And it starts delivering in short period. But I have a few question about the process!
- The price is higher than we expect. We have to pay transportation charge which will vary by Rs. 175 to Rs. 250. There is Rs. 25 charged by Punjab National Bank. And what is the cost of time we spent in the queue?
- They said it will take Up to 96 hrs for delivery. But people are waiting for more than 7 days and the penta t pad is still not delivered.
- They do not respond via mail and it is really hard to reach them via phone. Since most of time the lines were busy and don’t get shocked when you find that the phones are switched off. The phone support can’t confirm the docket number to track the shipment, most of time.
- The BSNL offer: It has no special thing, As BSNL internet plans offers 3GB data usage for one month in Rs. 98 and in this way you will get 9GB data usage for three months by paying Rs. 294 and if you buy Penta T-Pad IS701R with the offer you will have to pay Rs. 250 + Rs. 30 extra. So, I don’t think Rs.14 matters for anybody. And not all usb modem supported. Also user will have to buy a converter cable for micro usb to standard usb.
I hope you would never buy the gadget or if you have not paid for the gadget and asked to do then think twice before making any decision. I will not suggest you to buy this crap. OR if possible then take a look into the gadget if possible or if your friend have.
I have paid the money on 26th March 2012 and got the gadget on 06th April 2012. Do you want to wait for such long time for such gadget. Wait for Aakash2 or Ubislate+. Possibly those gadgets will be better option.

If the specified pictures about BSNL TPAD are true then y not you show those pics in the video u uploaded on youtube?
You posted that the pics are screen shots.Are those screen shots are that much clarity picutures?

The video on the YouTube is about unboxing only. And I did not know about these things until I seen the RAM usages and Storage. And don’t confused with the clarity of images. Those are not taken from a camera but a Screen Capturing software, which can be easily installed from Google Play (A.k.a. Android Market).
Two Android app i used to reveal these facts:
1. A Screen capturing app. (I did not rememberd the exact app. Since not all app is compatible with an Penta T-Pad, This is not a strange fact it happens)
2. A System info app. And the App I used for this purpose is Android System Info

Just adding my two cents here;
2 gb of space includes space utilized by android system and some preinstalled apps. So total space available to user is < 2 gb. This to my knowledge will happen with any tablet including Kindle fire which has 8 gb internal storage but < 6 gb for user data. Also, if you buy 500 gb hard disk from market, net space available is < 500 gb (since, they compute 1 gb = 1000 mb, but actually it is 1024mb) Take all these factors into account before you pass judgment.
You are probably right about the resolution – but all cheap tablets including the much better (and more expensive) Micromax Funbook, A-Tab, Veedee have the same screen resolution (800 * 480).
I agree that mini usb – OTG Adapter should have been bundled with the tablet. It will cause inconvenience to new users and increases effective cost of tablet.
To me most disappointing aspect of the tablet is the battery life and very average touch
Really nice comment comment I really loved it. But I have two (actually three) questions about this Penta T-Pad IS701R!
1. What about RAM?
2. Their is only 444MB available to users! As the Menu item “My Pad” says in the tablet pc.
3. And Most importantly, What about the commitment the company mentioned at their site and advertised? I think Pantel should be honest about the configuration and deliver only that device which they shown on their site or anywhere else. It’s illegal and anyone can challenge Pantel in consumer courts!!

Everyone should understand one thing properly that the gadgets from less reputed manufacturers can have number of issues at a same time . Such organizations do not fulfill the commitment , as we have seen in Aakash tablet.
I agree with you that there are lots of flaws in Penta T-Pad but it cost less compare to the tablets available in market. There are many people who wants to own a tab but do not want to invest much on tablet.
In my opinion, at the price of T-pad IS701 R there is no other tablet in the market which offers such a configuration. If i remember correctly reliance came out with cheap handsets and the quality was very poor. There is always a comparison between price to quality ratio. If you are conscious about quality then i would suggest go in for higher model of Penta T-pads.

As far as I know BSNL Penta T-Pad IS701R do not have any inbuilt modem, So you will need to buy 3G modem (will cost Rs. 1700-3000) which will support BSNL 3G network. This is not included in the lowest model of Pantel T-Pad.

You can’t install Gtalk on Penta 701R Pad because It is not available in Android Market or Google Play. However, you should search for Gtalk apk(Android application package) file and try your luck.

It took me one complete month to recieve the mail of dispatch after making payment.
I made payment on 22 may 2012 and I recieved dispatch mail on 22 jun 2012 and I am yet to get the product in my hand.
In my case the wait was 38 days (and after many unattended and two responded calls with their call centre). After that what I could get was a lily white one contrary to my expectation of ALL BLACK IPAD!

That’s not the problem with Storage. You may install 100s of Apps in your Penta T-Pad. That’s because of lack of RAM. Install some memory management app like Task manager and kill unnecessary running app.

Dear Anand you are absolutely right, I also buy pantel latest IS701C tablet although
IS701C Tablet is very Nice but Pantel is cheating people with fake specifications.
(1) RAM is 280MB and not as claimed 512MB.
(2) Internal memory is 3GB including apps space and not 4GB.

I have IS701 and offfice application is installed in it. I am not able to save any of doc/excel/notepad which i have modifiled. Error message is ‘Error while saving’.
When I am trying to download any of mail attachment then also its not happening. Error message is ‘Not enough space’ though there is enough space.
Can anybody please help?
